During a time when people focus mainly on making money through risky investments and saving, society tends to ignore the strong effect of giving. It is generally believed that reaching financial wealth involves saving, tightening one's belt, and raising one's earnings. However, this mindset does not consider the truth that has been recognized across cultures, religions, and generations throughout human history. Both historical religious ideas and modern studies in psychology show that giving helps people build abundance instead of a lack of resources. Studies, analysis of the economy, and personal experiences all suggest that being generous leads to good opportunities, positive connections, and satisfaction that ordinary wealth-building does not give. Giving to charity encourages personal growth, helps people feel better, and opens new opportunities for everyone.
The Psychology and Science of Giving
The idea that charity helps people grow rich is based on research that challenges the common thinking on money and happiness. People who help others with their money feel more satisfied and happier than those who only focus on their needs (Aknin & Whillans, 2020). It is known as the "helper's high" since giving to others makes people feel good by releasing endorphins and exciting the brain parts that relate to joy and contentment. Whenever one gives, the brain reacts similarly to receiving a surprise, which helps one keep giving more. Besides, being involved with a charity helps people meet new people and develop relationships important for accessing jobs, joining business teams, and starting joint projects. People who are active in philanthropy commonly access resources, information, and opportunities that those who focus only on personal wealth miss. Apart from short-lived happiness, practicing acts of giving psychology benefits people by lowering their stress, improving their mental health, and making them feel more meaningful in life, which helps them succeed at work and home.

In the Islamic faith, zakat and sadaqah serve as a well-planned way to cleanse wealth and develop one's spiritual life. The Quran tells believers to be generous with Allah because it creates more, not less (The Quranic Arabic Corpus - Translation, 2017). Likewise, Christians are taught that giving is more blessed than receiving, which is seen as an opportunity to earn spiritual and material blessings (Acts 20:35, n.d.). They knew encouraging generosity results in a positive outlook, attracting more opportunities and resources. Donating money often makes people realize that their wealth can grow and be used for beneficial moves, which is important for maintaining prosperity. Anthropologists have noted that in certain cultures, whether ancient or modern, value-giving tends to...
