Software developers should make decisions from ethical considerations to avoid adverse effects to the environment. The moral choices have significant impacts to people, organizations, and on the entire planet. Uber versus Waymo Company is an excellent example of software engineering that was a health hazard to the environment. However, Waymo Company did not consider it a threat when the employee was working at their company. Therefore, I find it unethical when it sues the competitive company that an engineer employee joined after leaving their company. They should have seen it as a threat when the employee was still at their company as it harmed the health of people and the environment generally. The Waymo Company should sue the employee earlier before joining the competitive company for polluting the well-being of people and the environment (McNamara, Smith & Murphy-Hill, 2018).
Furthermore, on the Dieselgate Scandal, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) was unfair to allow Volkswagen Company to manufacture vehicles that emit amount pollutions than those needed by international and US regulators. It endangered the lives of many people in the United States. It was unethical for the authorities to value money value than the loss of 59 people due to pollution.
ACM code of ethics should provide policies and regulations that guide decisions of people in software development and computing professions. The policies offer explanations that assist computing personnel in creating environmental friendly in software development. It highlights critical ethical principles that are a foundation to the remainder of the code. It enables people to have a common goal in safeguarding rules and regulations in the health of people in ethical decisions they make. The death tragic is an unfortunate scenario that has to lead ACM back to track to put health issues fast before the benefits of theirs on the decisions they make in software development programs. Employees of ACM should show concerns to their duties with the pollution effects to the public. Besides, these employees should have the drive to sue employees before too late with the matters related to environmental ethics and the health of people as well as organizations.
