Introduction
The choice of the methodology of study for any researcher significantly depend on the purpose of their study, which is raised by the questions to be answered. While many reports adopt a common structure, how the researcher addresses the different sections helps one to conclude whether the research was effective or ineffective. The article titled “The Tiredness of Life in Older Persons: A Qualitative Study on Nurses’ Experiences of Being Confronted with This Growing Phenomenon” by Liesbeth Van Humbeek plays an essential role in helping the reader understand the researcher’s intentions.
Review of Introduction
Background
The introduction section comprises the background section, in which the researcher provides a basic understanding of the topic of study. In addition, this section also ansers the uestion of why in the study. All studies must have a suitable a suitable background section to make the reader understand more about the topic. In the aricle, the authors clearly identify the study design that they will use in the title. The introduction section is succinctly presented with the authors expressing the need for increased adaptation to the following the many challenges that they face with age.
Problem Statement
The authors highlight their problem statement in terms of the objectives that they desire to meet in the study. They note that the purpose of hteir study is to attain a more indepth understanding of what being a nurse in a homecare context entails. They state that their main aim is to gain insights into the nurses experiences in handling older adults in terms of the (a) experiences, (b) attitudes(s), (c) ways of dealing with ToL.
Purpose
The authors provide a clear purpose of their study in their abstract, which helps the reader understand what the entire research is about without the need to engage in extensive reading. Since their target was to assess the nurse experience, which is a phenomenological concept, a qualitative study approach was more suitable.
Research Questions
The research questions emanate from the purpose of the study, which entails identifying the nurse experience in dealing with the issue of tiredness of life in older persons. However, these questions are not clearly stated. Without a clear statement of these questions, it is difficult for the reader to have a clear picture of what the research will focus on.
Congruence to Research Tradition
Methodological congruence refers to the fit between the research problem and the question, and also the fit between the research question and the methodology, as well as the methodology and the data. The study sort to assess the nurse experiences in handling the problem of tiredness among older adults. The research question is not clearly highlighted, which makes it difficult to establish its congruence with the methodology. However, since the research question focuses on a phenomenological concept, then it is congruent with the qualitative research, which is normally effective in dealing with such concepts.
Review of Literature
The authors conducted an excellent literature review by highlighting several authors and their studies on the wish to hasten death among older persons. The authors also quote both qualitative and quantative studies on the topic, which helps confirm the presence of a gap in literature. The review is also critical as there is a comparison of the studies with other findings, making it easier for the reader to confirm that there is indeed a gap in literature concerning the topic. However, the literature review section is merged with the introduction section, which makes it to appear underdeveloped. Having a clear section of the introduction and the literature review makes it easier for the reader to follow the research process.
Review of Theoretical or Conceptual Framework
The researchers based their study on the Grounded Theory approach, which is better at determining what would happen in a given situation. This theory responds and changes as the conditions affecting behaviour also changes. Besides, this theory does not only offer explicit guidleines for conducting qualitative research, it also provides specific strategies in dealing with analytical phases of inquiry.
Review of Methodology
Description of Ideological Perspective
The ideological perspective of a study entails the body of ideas that reflect a set of beliefs by which a society operates. The researchers’ ideological perspective for the study is based on the social confict and perspectives on aging. These older people experience a state of social conflict that appears to be the basis of their tiredness.
Design
The research design was an explorative, qualitative, and constructivist grounded methodology. A constructivist grounded theory (CGT) is a qualitative research technique that focuses on understanding and exploring a social process in which there is insufficient theory to explain the concept. Adults experience of tiredness is a social process with limited research. While previous studies have focused on nurses experience with different illnesses that this population handles, tiredness have often been assumed. Therefore, this theoretical approach was the most suitable for the process.
Limitations
The study had some major limitations in terms of ...
