Casey, W. M., & Siennick, S. E. (2023). Juvenile recidivism: an examination of state measurement strategies. American Journal of Criminal Justice, 48(3), 786-807.
This article highlights various strategies for measuring juvenile recidivism in different states. Juvenile recidivism, a relapse into criminal behavior among teenagers and children, has been increasing with the present study revealing that up to 80% of the incarcerated youth under the majority age are rearrested within three years of release (Casey & Siennick, 2023). When evaluating the levels of juvenile recidivism, states typically track the reoccurrence of youth’s system involvement over a particular period. Findings from the article show that most American states measure juvenile recidivism using the following parameters: placement or return to custody; adjudication, the filing of charges in juvenile court, re-arrests and follow-up lengths to track reoffending (Casey & Siennick, 2023). This article was selected because it measures the rate of juvenile delinquency and recidivism, which is my topic of interest in the field of juvenile justice.
Aazami, A., Valek, R., Ponce, A. N., & Zare, H. (2023). Risk and protective factors and interventions for reducing juvenile delinquency: A systematic review. Journal of Social Sciences, 12(9), 1-18.

According to the article, family conflict and dysfunction such as domestic violence, adverse childhood experiences, and harsh parenting expose juveniles to deviant behaviors. Other risk factors include neglect and maltreatment. Findings show that individual family-based interventions are effective in mitigating delinquent behaviors and recidivism among young people. These include school satisfaction, parental closeness, and higher academic achievement. Family and community-based interventions invol...
