Artemisia Gentileschi is one of the female artists who achieved recognition. She, however, became popular in the 1970s when female artists discovered her and included her in the Italian baroque painters. She continued stirring interests and her position and her canon position remains uncertain. She had a sensationalized history which overshadowed her art. The author Mieke Bal and other authors looked into the early life of the author and her status as an artist. The author considered the events which shaped the life of the artist, her relationship with her father and the rape case which she was a victim and tortured to give evidence. Artemisia turns out to be an artist with great works which have overcome the traditional events that defined her.
