Wanting to become a school guidance counselor

Personal Statement for School Counseling Program Name: Affiliation: Course: Instructor: Date: Personal Statement for School Counseling Program I seek to become a school guidance counselor because of my passion for seeing students overcome the psychological problems associated with teenagehood. Knowing that I went through trauma myself – especially being raped at the age of 18 – I am eager to establish conditions that will help students feel protected and encourage them to recover. I am more sensitive towards people with personal issues now, so I will help youth overcome their problems. Therefore, I strongly agree with school counselors as people who support and teach students to build a system of priorities and cope with stress while facing pressure. However, one event that helped shape my decision to choose counseling was at Plains Elementary School in South Hadley, MA, when the school principal died suddenly. I was able to learn firsthand how this school therapy dog helped the children as they went through their grieving phase.
